Harford County Children's Literacy Sponsors - Read to Succeed Program
Over the years, D.A. Jennings has presented numerous readings, at no charge, to public and private schools, and other gatherings of children. With each presentation she became more convicted of the need for all children to have the opportunity to own their own book. Then, as fate would have it, she was invited by Jennifer Palmer at Hall's Cross Road Elementary School to be their guest author for Family Reading Night on May 18th, 2023. The school had received a grant which enabled them to purchase one book for each family that attended the event. After each of the two presentations that evening, Jennings witnessed the electrifying excitement of the children when she talked to them and they received their books. It was clear, action needed to be taken.

On May 4th, 2023, D.A. Jennings made a presentation to members of the Joppatowne Lions Club to sponsor books for local children covered under Title One. The response was overwhelming. The club commitment, which included two additional donations by Daniel Jahn and Peggy Hoban, sponsored 68 books for children. The cost of sponsorship covers the printing costs - this is not a profit endeavor by the author. The delivery of books will include a reading by D.A. Jennings of one or more of her illustrated books. Updates of book deliveries will be posted on the Literacy Sponsor tab of this site as they occur. Huge kudos to Rich Bennett (President) and the members of the group who are the first to invest in this literacy program. Read to succeed!
Abingdon Elks Sponsors Books for Schools
September 27, 2024 - Excitement was in the air at the Abingdon Elks Lodge as members presented over 250 books they sponsored for students at the Edgewood Elementary School and Old Post Road Elementary School. Lodge member, Margi Hetterick, spearheaded the effort and Community School Specialists Erika Jones and Jonathan Hammel gratefully accepted the books on behalf of their respective schools. This event is evidence of the lodge’s continuing community efforts to help children grow up healthy and drug free and also underscores their motto "Elks care -- Elks Share." Each school will also receive a complimentary reading of one of D.A. Jennings' illustrated children's books in the spring of 2025. The excitement continues.
